Introduction
During the East Midlands Rugby Union Centenary Year, 1997/1998, the Colts section, chaired by the then President, Bob Bunting, suggested that the East Midlands organise a Club Colts Knock-Out Cup Competition for Under 19 teams. All clubs situated in England were invited to enter and 111 did so.
It was decided at an early stage to adopt many of the practices used for the senior cup competition. Each division of the RFU produced eight teams by Christmas and these teams then went on to the national stages, with Leeds and Moseley reaching the Final, which was held at Franklins Gardens, Northampton on Sunday 10th May 1998, Moseley winning 8-3.
The 1999/2000 season saw the introduction of the Plate competition for all those clubs who play and lose in the rounds 1-3.
